Getting the most out of your Spotify library is a matter of understanding what to look for. You want to be able to locate music by artists, albums, genres, moods, and more.
Artists
Creating a playlist is easy with Spotify, but how do you keep track of your favorite artists? If you want to curate a smaller collection of your favorites, Spotify offers a way to export your favorites.
First, you need to navigate to the “Artists” section of your profile. This is where all of the music in your account lives. You can browse through the list or click on any item to jump to it.
If you wish to add an artist to your profile, you’ll need to have at least one album and a few singles. You can also add a pre-made playlist to your profile. You can also follow and unfollow an artist. You’ll be able to see a list of their recommendations in the lower right corner of the Spotify mobile app.
You can also search for songs that are similar to those that you like. Simply tap on the 3-dot icon on the right side of a song title. This will bring up a menu where you can search within the library or choose a default playlist.
In addition to adding content to your profile, you can also remove items from your library. Just long-tapping an item will reveal its removal options. You can also delete a playlist.
The “Spotify” desktop app features a new “Your Library” feature that will prioritize downloaded playlists. It also includes a sleeker design. Previously, you had to manually sort your playlists into folders. The new update is available to Premium users only.
In addition to playlists, the desktop app also has a music and podcasts section. You can view your saved Podcasts or Playlists, and search for saved content.
Albums
Streaming music services like Spotify pay artists and record labels to effectively “rent” their content. This means they can offer their subscribers millions of songs that are free from ads. They also have access to their users’ personal data, which can help them add or remove songs from their library. Similarly, it’s possible for them to pre-save albums to give them access to playlists and other features that might be of interest to fans.
It’s not exactly easy to find a song that you’re looking for on Spotify, though. Some albums have been left off the service, such as Sebadoh’s Act Surprised, The Seven Mile Journey’s The Metamorphosis Project, and Moving on the Edge of Things by TWDY. In the future, this might change, as some artists have quietly decided to pull their work from the service.
Some streaming services allow you to download their music so you can listen to it when you don’t have an internet connection. However, this option is only available to premium subscribers. Those who don’t have a premium account can’t download their albums.
If you do have a premium subscription, you can download your albums using the desktop app. This feature is not yet available for Android users, but Spotify is working on it. You can download albums and save them for later playback, or play them offline.
Alternatively, you can use a music downloader like AudFree SpoDable to import your favorite Spotify albums to your device. It can convert songs into MP3, FLAC, or AAC, or even export them as ringtones. You can customize the bit rate and sample rate.
You can also create a playlist of your favorite Spotify albums. This will make it easier for you to navigate the service.
Podcasts
Whether you’re new to podcasts or a long-time listener, you may be interested to know how to get your podcast on Spotify. The service has a huge user base, so you have a big advantage when it comes to finding people to listen to your show.
Podcasting has grown rapidly in the past few years. Several popular podcasts have emerged, including “Criminal,” hosted by Phoebe Judge and tackling true crime. Others, like Warner Bros./DC’s “Batman Unburied” and Kim Kardashian’s “System: Cases of Kevin Keith,” are also getting major attention.
As you might expect, Spotify is a heavyweight in the music industry. The service is an aggregator of music and podcasts, and it’s growing quickly. In the last quarter, its podcasts grew to 4.7 million. That’s an increase from 4.4 million in the previous quarter. Unlike Apple, which has an ad-supported model, Spotify is focused on creating a frictionless experience for both creators and advertisers.
As Spotify expands its podcast portfolio, it’s taking on Apple and other competitors. The company recently signed Joe Rogan, one of the biggest names in podcasting, and spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the deal.
The New York Times’s “The Daily” has more than one million unique listeners every day, making it the fifth-most-popular podcast in the world. But there are other major podcast labels that could challenge Spotify’s growth.
For example, Gimlet Media, the company that produces highly-produced podcasts, is hiring a management team to produce exclusives for Spotify.
For podcasters, this can help them secure financial backing for ambitious projects. It’s also a great way to make use of economies of scale. If you produce several podcasts at once, you can leverage your ownership of in-demand content when negotiating distribution with Spotify.
Downloaded
Using the Spotify application on your computer, you can download and save music. You can also listen to music offline, which is useful if you travel a lot or are not connected to Wi-Fi. However, downloading music can take up a lot of space on your device. You can avoid this by switching your default storage from Spotify to an SD card. You can do this by going to Settings.
When you open the Spotify app on your mobile device, you will see a section called “Your Library”. You can view your saved albums and playlists by clicking the “Your Library” tab. You can also filter your music by Album, Artist, and Date Played. If you have a Premium account, you can download songs and playlists for offline use.
You can download a song or playlist from Your Library, but you cannot download an entire album or podcast. Instead, you can select individual songs and add them to a new playlist. This is the best way to transfer songs between your PC and your phone.
The downloaded music is stored in a cache file. This helps the Spotify app run smoothly. You can delete the cache to free up some of your Spotify storage space. You can download a song at 160kbps and use up to 10MB. The song will have an additional size depending on the quality setting. You can reduce the quality setting to ‘Normal’ to get rid of the extra space.
You can also switch the download quality. For example, you could set it to ‘Very High’ and get songs that are around 10MB in size. This would save you a substantial amount of space.
Genres & Moods
Using the new Genres & Moods for Spotify library, users will have access to a wide range of attributes for their music collection. Besides the usual favorites, users will be able to filter songs based on genres and popularity. This makes it easier to find songs of a certain type.
The Liked Songs feature is also something to look out for. This allows users to create personalized playlists that can include songs of different genres. The playlist can then be sorted by mood. The Liked Songs feature can also be used on mobile devices.
Despite the fact that Spotify hasn’t released desktop versions of its service yet, you can still use the Liked Songs feature on your favorite mobile device. You’ll simply need to add at least 30 titles to your library. You can then sort the likes of the music by tempo, genre, and mood. You can also import local music to create a personalized collection.
Unlike other similar services, Spotify’s algorithm is not based on simple word association. The algorithm is designed to evaluate music by subjective psychoacoustic factors. It determines genres by color, duration, and oblique factors. It will also update its genres based on songs added or removed from a playlist. This means you can have up to 15 personalised mood categories for your music collection.
The Genres & Moods filter is just one of many features coming to the Spotify mobile app. The list of options is growing all the time. You’ll have to wait until later this week to see them all on your iOS and Android device.
You can organize your music collection by genres and moods, which will make it easier to find songs of a particular type. This is a nice addition to the Spotify app.
